
Biography
Le Shi is a cellist and music educator with an international background in performance and music education.
She holds two Master’s degrees in Cello and Music Performance from the Tianjin Conservatory of Music in China and the Faculty of Music, University of Toronto. Prior to relocating to Canada, she served as a Lecturer at the Tianjin Conservatory of Music, where she was engaged in cello pedagogy, curriculum development, and academic research.
As a performer, Le Shi has appeared as a soloist and chamber musician in a wide range of concerts and cultural events. She has received the Outstanding Artist honor and was nominated for an international artist award in 2016. During her musical training, she benefited from guidance from a number of distinguished cellists, including Yo-Yo Ma and Mischa Maisky. Her academic work includes a Master’s dissertation, Analysis of Shostakovich Cello Concerto No. 1, which was published by the Music & Performance Journal of the Nanjing Art Institute.
Since settling in Canada, Le Shi has continued to build an integrated performance and teaching career. She has worked as a featured soloist with the Chinese Artists Society of Toronto (CAST) and as a performing member of the Kindred Spirits Orchestra (KSO). In parallel with her performance work, she teaches cello, chamber music, and music theory at multiple music schools as well as in her private studio.
Her work brings together professional performance and pedagogy, spanning solo, chamber, and collaborative projects alongside teaching.
